Graduate Research Awards (2017)

The winners of the Mathematics Department's Graduate Research Awards for 2017 have now been named:

  • Oliver Leigh, winner for Pure Mathematics, and
  • Josh Scurll and Cole Zmurchok, joint winnners for Applied Mathematics.

Please join us in congratulating Oliver, Josh and Cole on their excellent research conducted during their time at UBC.

Oliver Leigh is an expert on both Gromov-Witten theory and Donaldson-Thomas theory, Josh Scurllhas made strides in image interpretation problems in cell biology, and is also at the forefront of designing an innovative strategy to personalize targeted cancer therapies, and Cole Zmurchok's research includes an ingenious finding in the application area of cell biology that mechanical tension on cells can affect their biochemistry.
Each award winner will be invited to give a Departmental Colloquium, where you can learn more about their work.
