Leah Edelstein-Keshet obtained her PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) in 1982. She is currently an Emeritus Professor at the UBC Department of Mathematics.

Her research interests include mathematical cell biology, modeling cell motility and cell polarization, intracellular signaling, pattern formation, and models for swarming and social aggregation. Leah authored a popular textbook, Mathematical Models in Biology, available in the SIAM "Classics" series.

She has been awarded the Krieger-Nelson prize of the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS), the Research prize of the Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Society (CAIMS),  the Arthur Winfree Research Prize of the Society for Mathematical Biology (SMB), the J von Neumann prize of SIAM, and the CRM-PIMS-Fields Award. She has been selected Fellow of SIAM, SMB, and RSC.
