The Math Graduate Committee (MGC) represents your graduate and postdoc math community at UBC! We run various programs throughout the year like a seminar series, an intramural soccer or dodgeball team, food and game socials, and match incoming grads with mentors. Let us know if you have ideas or suggestions for activities! We are also your peer contact in the department and will do our best to support you if you have any questions or concerns.
Math Graduate Seminar, every other Thursday from 5-6pm in MATH 126
This is a great place to present your research, practice for an upcoming talk, or share a cool mathematical topic. For attendees, come see what kind of mathematics is happening in the department while enjoying some ice cream. Graduates and post-docs are all welcome to present and attend!
Intramural Sports Team
This fall 2025 term we have a dodgeball team "Average Joe's Gym" participating in UBC Recreation's league. In the past, we have also organized a soccer team for the Handely Cup. Mentor-Mentee Matching
Starting grad school in a new program can be intimidating, especially if it's in a new city or country. That's why we help pair incoming grad students with more senior students to help navigate your studies. We usually ask incoming students at the start of September each year if they would like a mentor, and pair them with volunteer students. This can be a great way to meet new people and make friends, for both the mentors and the mentees!
