UBC Math Welcomes New Faculty Members

This fall, UBC Mathematics warmly welcomes four new faculty members to the department:

Giuseppe Genovese
Giuseppe joins us from the mathematics department at the University of Zurich. He obtained his PhD from La Sapienza University in Rome, and previously held postdoctoral positions in Paris, Zurich and Basel, before returning to Zurich. Giuseppe has broad interests in mathematical physics, partial differential equations and probability. This term, he will be co-teaching Math 253 (Multivariable Calculus for Engineers) with Mark Mac Lean.

Ahmet Alacaoğlu
Prior to joining UBC Math, Ahmet was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Wisconsin. He received his PhD from EPFL in Switzerland and works in optimization, machine learning and reinforcement learning. This term, he will be teaching Math 307 (Applied Linear Algebra).
Cyrille Kenne
Cyrille arrived from the Université des Antilles in Martinique. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from Université des Antilles and is joining us from postdoctoral work there. Cyrille works in control and partial differential equations, with applications to mathematical modelling of infection. This term, he will be co-teaching Math 319 (Introductory Analysis) with Andrew Rechnitzer.
Chiara Saffirio
Chiara received her PhD from La Sapienza in Rome and held postdoc positions in Bonn and Zurich. Most recently, she held an Assistant Professor position in Basel. Chiara works in mathematical physics, specializing in deriving effective equations for many-body quantum and classical systems.
