Abstract: 

This interactive workshop, open to Women and Gender-diverse faculty, staff, postdocs and grad students will build the muscle for identifying, naming, and safely responding to microaggressions. Participants will walk away with an understanding of different forms of microaggression and build their toolbox for internally regulating and externally responding to microaggressions in the moment.

The workshop is funded by the Faculty of Science Strategic Innovation Fund, and will include a free lunch.

Speakers

Elisa Baniassad

Elisa works in collaboration with Christina Hendricks to provide academic leadership to the CTLT. Elisa holds a faculty position in the Department of Computer Science, where she teaches multiple courses in the Software Engineering stream, and examines pedagogy of Software Engineering.

Maryam Nabavi

Maryam is Program Director and leadership coach with the the Academic Leadership Development Program, where she contributes to building a culture of academic leadership at UBC. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Studies (UBC) and a Masters in Adult Education and Community Development (OISE/UofT). She has published widely in the areas of belongings and citizenship learning, self-reflexive methodologies, and inclusive teaching and learning.
