Abstract: 

We discuss several results, well-known for quadratic forms over fields, in the setting of quadratic forms over arbitrary semilocal rings. Among them are Springer’s odd degree extension theorem and the norm principles of Scharlau and of Knebusch. The talk is based on joint work with Philippe Gille.
