Abstract:

The distance set of a set E consists of all non-negative numbers
that represent distances between pairs of points in E. If E is quantifiably
large, how large is its distance set? How does the structure of E influence
the distribution of its distances? Questions of this nature play a
fundamental role in geometric measure theory. This talk will report on
joint work with Senthil Raani, investigating various properties of
distances generated by sparse (less than full-dimensional) Euclidean sets.
