Pre-exam office hours

• I will have pre-exam office hours on Friday Deceber 9, Monday December 12 and Wednesday December 14.
• On those days I will be available from 1:30pm until 4:30pm.

Pre-exam review assignment

• Coming very soon.
• It consists of 100 webwork questions.
• It is for review only - it does not contribute to your grade.

Workshop and tutorial hours

• Information about drop-in tutorials can be found here.
• The tutorials are in the Mathematics Learning Centre in LSK 300.
• Help for 180 is available Mondays to Thursdays 9am to 5pm and Fridays 9am to 3pm.
• Generally mornings tend to be quieter and less busy than afternoons - so you might find it pays to come early.

• James Stewart: Calculus - Early trancedentals 7th edition (I know - the picture says 6th edition, but the covers quite similar).

Assessment and Grading scheme

• Your final mark will be calculated as follows
  • 50% = common final exam (December)
  • 30% = two in class midterm tests (October 5 and November 9)
  • 10% = homework
  • 10% = workshops
• I will not give make-up midterms or exams.
• If you are forced to miss assessment due to illness then we need to be notified within 72 hours. When you are healthy again we can discuss reweighting your marks. We will need to see original written documentation in the form of a letter from your doctor. If you do not follow these guidelines, then a score of zero will be given for the missed assessment.
• Please do not eat leftover sushi before your midterms or exam. It is surprising how many students become ill because of this.
• Please read these notes on plagiarism and academic integrity.

Midterm and Exam

• The final exam will be in December - please do not make travel plans until the date becomes known.
• The midterms will be held in class on October 5 and November 9.
• We will put up information about the midterms and exam here as it becomes available.
• You can find a practice midterm here. And here are the solutions - please attempt the midterm before you look at the solutions.
• This is exactly the midterm I gave to my class 2 years ago. Our midterm will slightly longer and a bit harder.
• You can find other practice midterms here and here. These are from other sections of the course so might not be exactly what we will do - but it should give you a rough idea.

Homework

• You should attempt all of the suggested homework problems that can be found here.
  You do not have to hand these in, however it should be noted that at least 50% of the exam will be similar to these questions.
• Homework (for credit) will be assigned week-by-week using the online WebWork system.
• You can log into the system using your CWL here - it might be worth bookmarking the link.

• eAssignment0 is a simple tutorial of how to use the system - but you still get credit for completing it on time - Sept 14th at 4pm.
• eAssignment1 will be the first real assignment.
• I have posted 2 review assignments on lines and basic algebra. They are "due" (but not for credit) Oct 4 at 5pm - just before the first midterm.
• Assignment2 is called "derivatives1" and is posted - it is due on Wednesday September 28th.
• Assignment 3 is called "derivatives2" and is posted - it is due on Monday October 3rd.
• Assignment 4 is called "derivatives3" and is available from Wednesday- it is due on Friday October 14th.
• Assignments 5 and 6 are called "derivatives4" and "derivatives5".
