06.12
• Comment from TA for H2: HW2 was marked out of 20 for a total of 4 problems each worth 5 marks. I marked Problems 1, 2, 6 and 16.

06.09
• The last two subjects of section 4.2: similarity and application to discrete dynamical systems, will be covered in the final exam, but not in MT2.

06.07
• The second midterm exam next Wednesday (June 14) will use the entire lecture time, 50 minutes. It will cover sections 2.1-2.3, 2.5-2.6, 3.1-3.2, and 4.1-4.2. There will be 4 computation problems and one Yes/No problem. The Yes/No problem will have 8 questions, and no justification is needed. For your preparation, practice 4 has been posted, and practice MT2 will be posted.

06.05
• The average of MT1, the first midterm exam, is 30.7 out of 40, or 76.8%. The following is the distribution.

05.29
• I posted the cover page of the midterm exam. It contains the mark for each problem and the rules. A change to the Yes/No problem: it contains 10 questions, and no justification is needed. Sample:
• Circle the correct answers. No justifications necessary.
(a) True or false ? 1+1 is always 2.
(b) True or false ? 1+1 is sometimes 3.
(c) True or false ? 1+1 could be 0 in an advanced algebra course such as MATH 501.
• (Answers: True, false, True.)

• For help, you can attend the TA office hour this afternoon 3:15-4:45pm, or my office hour tomorrow 1:30-2:50pm.

• Comments from TA for H1: I have corrected Problems 3,10,13 and 14 from the problem set. Each problem counts for 5 points and hence the total marks are given out of 20 points.

• Final exam: Wednesday June 28, 2017, 12:00 noon-2:30pm, ESB 1013.

05.24
• First midterm Exam next Wednesday (May 31) will use the entire lecture time, 50 minutes. It covers sections 1.1-1.5 and 1.7-1.9. Section 1.6 is skipped. There will be 4 computation problems and one Yes/No problem. The Yes/No problem will have 5 questions, and you need to give a one-sentence reason for each answer. For your preparation, practice 2 has been posted, and practice MT1 will be posted.
