Abstract: This is an expository note based on the work of D. J. Saltman. We discuss the notions of retract rationality and retract equivalence and reprove some of the results from Saltman's paper Multiplicative field invariants, J. Algebra 106 (1987), no. 1, 221--238, using geometric language.
