The Beetles and the Rolling Stones

We will discuss the regularity of the interface in two different free-boundary problems arising from the degeneracy of nonlinear parabolic equations: the porous medium equation and the Gauss curvature flow with flat sides. We will show that, under certain assuptions on the initial data, the free-boundary becomes smooth for a short time. We will also discuss the long time regularity of the interface.
