Models for communicable diseases with age-dependent mortality
We formulate and analyze qualitatively a model for the transmission
of a communicable disease in a population of individuals with an
age-dependent death rate. We examine the basic reproductive number
and the stability of disease-free and endemic equilibria. In addition,
we explore the relation between the basic reproductive number,
life expectancy, and mean age at infection, which is rather more
complicated than in simpler models.
Refreshments will be served in Math Annex Room 1115, 3:15 p.m.
