Intersection in the Loop Space

Abstract: I'll first go over intersection in a manifold. I'll then explain how Chas and Sullivan used these ideas to get an intersection-type product on the homology of the free loop space of oriented manifolds. I'll then explain how one can use a space of fat graphs to extend the Chas and Sullivan product to include operations parameterized by the homology of certain moduli space of Riemann surfaces. Finally I'll discuss potential applications. \bigskip

The speaker is a UFA candidate in the Department of Mathematics and will also give the Algebra/Topology Seminar, Tuesday, October 2nd at 3:30 p.m. in MATH 105.

Refreshments will be served at the PIMS Afternoon Tea, 2:45 p.m.
