UBC Mathematics: MathNet FAQ [Vacation Messages]
Question: How do I set up autoreply messages (like vacation messages)?
Author: Joseph Tam
Date: Nov. 9, 2006
Before you install an Email auto-reply message, you should read this FAQ
item regarding the issues involved with installing one:
What are the risks of using an Email auto-reply?
There are 2 ways to do this:
- Use the MathNet User Services web page:
Go to the MathNet User Services site:
https://www.math.ubc.ca/php/MathNet/admin/?rd=Forward
- Log in using your username and password. If it does not recogize you,
ask the UBC Mathematics Office Receptionist to check (and possibly add) your
web profile.
Select the "Set Email Vacation/Forwarding" menu item.
Select the "Set up your vacation autoreply message." button.
Enter the subject and message of your reply message.
Enter your password again at the bottom input field and
press the "Do It!" button.
Log out.
If possible, test your autoreply by finding someone to send you a piece of mail.
To deactivate, login in as above, and use the "Remove any vacation/forwarding currently set."
button.
- Use the vacation command:
Log on using your account to any MathNet Unix workstation.
Run the following command:
env EDITOR=your-favorite-editor vacation
Enter your message (including your Subject title, if any).
That's it. To deactivate, run the command:
rm ~/.forward
