Book of Proof second edition by Richard Hammack

- By a quick google search I found the site http://www.people.vcu.edu/~rhammack/BookOfProof/BookOfProof.pdf

There are a number of resources at the cite http://www.math.ubc.ca/~gor/texpage.html which include links to free downloads for windows and mac. Below are some highlighted resources.

- Online LaTeX access www.writelatex.com. The Homework Template will be a good template to start from.
- For help with finding codes for math symbols use Detexify .

Read section 2.7 starting at page 51 until you read the definition for the universal quantifier and the existential quantifier. The goal is to answer the two questions. What is the mathematical notation? How are these quantifiers phrased in english sentences?

Directions

- Give a sentence or two explanation for all answers. Correct answers without explanation may not receive full credit. If you are not sure what to say consider the following.
- Restate what the set is in words rather than mathematical notation. For example if you are working with a set
*X*= {*n*∈ ℕ :*n*is even} you could say "The set*X*contains all even integers larger than zero". - Restate a relevant definition. For example if you are finding the union of two sets mention that the answer contains all elements from both sets.
- If you received significant ideas from another person or worked with another person please acknowledge them at the end of your homework or homework problem.
