Installation issues

Requires Java 1.3 or higher. Java 3D and installation instructions can be downloaded from Sun's page. Linux port by Blackdown.

Large Java 3D programs very slow without hardware acceleration. Getting acceleration to work adds a layer of complexity to installation.

Linux: XFree86 + D(irect)R(endering)I(nfrastructure). Check installation with glxinfo, get frame rate by running glxgears

Small scenes okay without DRI (uses software software rendering), this is what I'm doing here because DRI is buggy on my laptop

Windows: had to downgrade to Java 1.3.1 for Java 3D to work
