MLC(Math Learning Centre): To receive free help in doing (WebWork and hand-in) homework or suggested exercise problems, Visit MLC! Math graduate students will give you very useful helps and advices freely. But do not use MLC tutors just to extract answers from them (They are not solution manuals). Rather, learn from them how to solve math problems and let them guide you in your own effort to solve the problems.
§ Midterm 1: Thursday, October 10th scheduled for a one-hour time period between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
§ Midterm 2: Thursday, November 7th scheduled for a one-hour time period between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Homework: There will be 4 (or 5) sets of homework you solve and hand in. Problems will be normally chosen from the Suggested Problems and announced during lectures. Please write down your solution in sufficient detail logically and precisely to receive full marks. Your homework will be marked by TA and be returned to you. Please take and review your marked homework for your exam preparation. If your marked homework is not taken by you on the day I return to you then I will assume that you miss that lecture, and class attendance may affect your final grading. There will be a final scaling (usually scaling up) of your homework marks (to match with other sections’ section specific 10% for fairness across sections). Homework which get 0 mark will be scaled up, but homework which is not submitted on the due day will not be scaled up (remains 0). The TA will not mark all of the problems. He will only mark about 4 problems chosen by me. The Number of problems you solve will also be counted. Copying from the solution manual will make the whole sets of homework marks (10% of final grade) 0. Please understand that this emphasis on homework is based on the fact that students who diligently do WebWork and Homework usually get high final grade.
