Abstract:

Several quantum and classical communications systems (e.g., quantum communications driven by memoryless sources, packet transmission over lossy networks, and multi user communications by CDMA) deal with surpassingly similar problems of the mathematical frame theory for different reasons. We found these connections while trying to solve a particular quantum data compression problem. This talk will describe the compression problem, and how similar questions arise and have been solved or left unanswered in mathematics, physics, and engineering.
