The PDF files can be opened and viewed within your web browser (without Maple) if you have installed Adobe Reader. You can download Adobe Reader for free from the Adobe web site: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html

Lab Hours

The lab in LSK 310 should be open and available on a drop-in basis weekdays 7:30 am to 5 pm except when it is in use by particular courses (including ours):

Transferring files

There are two ways of transferring worksheet files between the lab and your home computer.
  1. If you have a web-based email account (e.g. Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail), you can send yourself an email with the worksheet as an attachment. If you don't have one already, you can get one of those email accounts for free.
  2. You can buy a USB flash drive that fits on a keychain, and put the file on it.

Crash prevention

It's very easy to cause Maple to use up all available memory and crash the computer. As memory is used up and the system starts using virtual memory, everything slows down to a crawl. Sometimes it may be difficult to recover from such a situation (especially on exams!). To prevent this, you can limit the amount of memory available to Maple. A limit of 100 MB should be reasonable for anything we will be doing. To do this on a Windows system, right-click on the Maple 14 icon and choose Properties. Under Shortcut, after "C:\Program Files\Maple 14\bin.win\maplew.exe" enter

-T infinity,100000

Then click OK. After this change has been made, if Maple tries to use more than 100 MB of memory it should fail gracefully enough that you can save your worksheet and start again. Note, however, that this only affects a Maple session started by clicking on that Maple 14 icon, not e.g. by clicking on a worksheet file icon.
