Math 180 Section 921 - Homework Assignments
Daily reading assignments and reading quizzes, as well as
weekly homework assignments and suggested homework problems will be posted here.
Online assignments will be posted on WeBWorK, follow
the link to MATH180-921_2013S1 and use
your CWL to login.
The suggested problems listed here are, for the most part,
odd-numbered questions
from the textbook.
Answers to these problems are
given in the back of the text, and solutions are in the Student Manual, sold with the textbook
at no charge for UBC students.
I strongly recommend you do these problems as
extra practice, in addition to the homework assignments. If you have an older edition of the textbook, you will have
to find out the corresponding textbook sections and question numbers yourself,
perhaps by borrowing the current edition from a
friend and transferring the information to your textbook.
Week 6 - Suggested problems
- §4.5: 63, 69, 71, 72
- §4.7: 5, 13, 15, 21, 29, 32, 37, 39, 45, 48, 51, 55, 69, 71, 74
- §4.9: 3, 5, 15, 21, 27, 33, 39, 45, 47, 60, 63, 69, 75, 76
Week 5 - WeBWorK assignments
- Assignment5: due on Monday June 17 at 4pm
- Hand-in assignment: Hand in your (complete) work on Question 9, 10, 11 from Assignment5 in WeBWorK. Your work should show the original function, and all
your calculations and answers for each part. For each part, you should indicate
whether or not WeBWorK accepted your answer as correct.
For each question,
you should also include a sketch of the graph of the given function.
If some of your answers are not correct (which you'll know from WeBWorK),
there may be some inconsistencies in your sketch. In this case, identify
where the problem is and how you would expect to correct it.
In addition to the above question, also hand in a sketch of the function
f(x)= 1 + 1/x +1/x^2. Your work on this part of the assignment should
include all relevant information about the function (domain, intercepts,
asymptotes, interval of increase or decrease, local max/min, concavity and
points of inflection, sketch).
This assignment is due
on Monday June 17 at the start of class.
- Additional hand-in assignment (optional): The assignment consists in
redoing
the question(s) you got wrong on the exam and reflecting on your errors.
Specifically, for each question you did wrong (or left blank) on the exam,
explain why your work
was wrong and provide a correct solution. Correct solutions without any
explanations of why your previous
work was wrong will not receive full marks. You should hand in your work
on a separate piece of paper
(do not write on your exam), along with your midterm. This assignment is
worth up to 2 extra points which
will be added to your midterm score.
