Section 102 material

Week 1

Watch Grady Wright's numerical simulation of flow in the Earth's mantle. We want to develop calculus in multidimensions so we can do this.

Week 2

Monday: Here's some algebraic detail omitted from one of the proofs: m253_cross_prod_proof.m.

Wednesday: demo of parameterized line.

Friday: motivation for what we can do once we understand multivariable calculus: xmorphia.

Week 3

Monday: m253_demo_wk3_hyperbolic_paraboloid.m. Also, see this online demo.

Wednesday: m253_demo_wk3_isosurfaces.m.

Friday: m253_demo_wk3_nolimit.m (example from lecture where limit does not exist at origin.

Week 4

Friday: Wave equation example: m253_demo_wk4_wave_eqn.m. Damped plucked string example: m253_demo_wk4_wave_eqn2.m.

Week 5

Week 6

Week 7

Friday: m253_demo_critical_pts.m.

Week 8

Monday: I suggest working through the calculations for this Lagrange multiplier demo from class.
