VECTOR CALCULUS BRIDGE PROJECT
                    Faculty Workshop, June 25-29, 2005
                  Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR

The NSF-funded Vector Calculus Bridge Project seeks to "bridge the gap"
between the way mathematicians on the one hand, and physical scientists and engineers on the other, do vector calculus.  We believe the way to do this is to emphasize the geometry of vector calculus.  We have developed guided group activities for both mathematics and physics classrooms to do just that; Instructor's Guides to accompany them are under development.

This workshop will teach participants how to use our materials, including
discussions of the motivation behind their development.  The workshop is
primarily aimed at those interested in actually using our materials in the
(mathematics or physics) classroom, but anyone interested in our approach
to teaching vector calculus is encouraged to apply.  Prior knowledge of
vector calculus is not necessarily an advantage (and is certainly not
required!), although some prior exposure would be helpful.  We expect to be able to cover local expenses, but not travel, for all invited participants; space is limited.

This year, for the first time, we plan to involve both physical scientists
and mathematicians, and hope to facilitate an enlightening dialog.
