Each year MAA members have the opportunity to recognize outstanding College and University teachers of mathematics by nominating them for their Section's MAA Teaching Award.  Winners of the Section Awards then become candidates for national recognition by the Haimo Teaching Awards.

Now is the time to propose nominees for your Section Teaching Award.   Information on eligibility and  the nomination process is available from your Section Secretary, and usually posted on your Section web site.   Be sure to check on the deadline for nominations for your Section Award; usually the deadline is some time in late Fall.  (The deadline for nominations for the Haimo awards is March 1, 2005.)

General information on the Section Teaching Award process, and also a pdf file of the official Nomination form and guidelines for eligibility for the Haimo Award can be found on the web site

www.maa.org/awards/teachingawards.htm

Usually the "short" form for nomination for a Section Teaching Award is the official Nomination form for the Haimo Award nomination.

We ask you, as liaisons on your campus, to encourage your colleagues to take the time to propose candidates for this important recognition.  The recipients of these awards invariably share the honor with their students, their colleagues, and their own teachers.  Through this recognition, these teachers provide inspiration to all those dedicated to excellence in teaching.

Thank you.
