WHAT'S NEW AT THE MAA?

This fall that should read, "WHO'S NEW AT THE MAA?" There have been many staff changes at MAA Headquarters this summer. So many in fact that we will save some for the next newsletter!

As many of you know, Jane Heckler has left the MAA. Jane spent the last 11 years developing programs like the Liaisons Program and serving members. She has decided to spend more time with her family at home. She will be greatly missed.

Tom Rishel has joined the MAA as the new Director of Programs and Services, after spending a very long time at Cornell University. Tom has been a member of many MAA committees, therefore has seen the volunteer side of the association. Among other things, he has written The Academic Job Search in Mathematics, Teaching First:A Guide for New Mathematicians and co-authored Writing in the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics with John Meier.

Brie Mustain has joined the MAA from the education field, having spent last year as a second grade teacher in Maryland. She is determined to use her background and creativity to foster new developments in MAA's Department of Programs and Services.

Doug Ensley from Shippensburg University is currently serving as Visiting Mathematician at the MAA. Doug is a current section officer and student chapter advisor, and an alumnus of Project NExT. While Doug is here, he will be co-editing the Liaisons Newsletter and working on the Math Digital Library.

SHARE YOUR NEWS AND EVENTS

The nature of this newsletter prescribes that to share information with each other, departments must first share it with us. Keep us comprised of your department events, your section workshops, and your good ideas to share with your colleagues. This month: send us your favorite "problem of the week" site. Contact Brie Mustain at MAA's Washington office at bmustain@maa.org or 202-319-8496 with thoughts, questions or concerns.

Your Newsletter Editors,
Brie Mustain and Doug Ensley
