Position: Director of the Curriculum Standards Office
Mission:
The mission of the Curriculum Standards Office is to develop curriculum
standards for charter schools for all subjects in grades K-12.
Purpose:
The Curriculum Standards Office will specify the knowledge and skills that
students are expected to have at particular grade levels- the desired
outcomes of a standards-based education system. The standards will then
allow schools individually to design their own curricula and programs to
meet them.
Responsibilities:
- As part of an education reform project in Qatar, the Director, Curriculum
and develop curriculum standards that will drive both school curricula
Standards Office (DCSO) will lead a team of specialists to adapt and
national assessment instruments at the K-12 level.
- The DCSO and his staff and consultants will specify the knowledge and
skills students are expected to obtain at each grade level.
- The Office will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating standards
adaptation and development. Although eventually this Office will develop
curriculum standards for a broad array of subjects, it will focus initially
on standards for Arabic, English, math, and science.
- The DCSO will be responsible for appointment of staff, evaluation of
performance and extension or termination of contracts.
- The DCSO will lead a team to work with international experts in education
and curricula, and develop a system that continuously updates education
standards.
- The DCSO works with relevant staff in the Evaluation Institute to insure
that standards and assessments are closely aligned.
- The Director reports to and meets regularly with the Director of the
Education Institute.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- A PhD in education, educational or developmental psychology, policy
research, or other related discipline is preferred, but those with other
educational backgrounds and the right experience will be considered.
- Experience in the development of state or national curriculum standards is
required. This experience must include considerable collaboration,
involving teachers, principals and other stakeholders in the development
process.
- Experience in the development of English, Arabic, math and/or science
curriculum standards is required.
- Experience in assessment and the application of curriculum standards to
the development of assessment tools preferred.
- A proven track record of working successfully in teams, both national and
international is highly desirable.
- Fluency in English.
