This is to call your attention to the Fields Institute Summer School on "Logical Foundations of Computer Science" being held at the University of Ottawa in June of this year.

Graduate students should note the existence of funding for attending this Summer School with competition slated for the end of February. See the website listed below for details.

Dear John:

I am just writing to advertise that this summer we are having a Fields Institute Summer School on "Logical Foundations of Computer Science" here at U. Ottawa. It will consist of two weeks of courses, plus one week of workshops, from June 2-20. The summer school will culminate in the IEEE conference Logic in Computer Science (LICS03), which will be held June 21-27 also here at U. Ottawa.

The summer school is especially aimed at graduate students (although others are welcome). It will cover several exciting areas in theoretical computer science, and includes courses by Samson Abramsky and Glynn Winskel, among many others. The last week of the summer school will consist of interesting specialized workshops, with many renowned logicians and computer scientists participating.

Would you please inform your students or members of your department about the Fields event? A competition for (a limited number of) graduate student scholarships is slated for the end of February, and we would especially encourage graduate students in logic, semantics and theoretical CS to think about applying. For more information about the summer school and how to apply, see our web page at

This web page also contains links to related events in theoretical computer science in the month of June here in Ottawa. Some additional links to local events, and general information on our logic group, can be found at http://www.mathstat.uottawa.ca/lfc/
