Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference (AMSRC)

TALK SHOP WITH AWARD WINNERS AT THE 2005 AMSRC; SIGN UP FOR PRE-EVENT ALERTS--This year's Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference (AMSRC), November 3 - 6 at the Westin Seattle, will provide several opportunities to interact with our award-winning "VIPs." On Friday, join Procter Prize recipient Bjarne Stroustrup and Young Investigator Thomas Spencer in a roundtable lunch discussion about their careers in science - a great chance to network with and learn from these science pioneers, as well as fellow delegates. Later that afternoon, Dr. Stroustrup will present his thoughts on the sustained success of C++ as he delivers the Procter Prize lecture. He will be available afterwards to sign his books, which will be on sale there at the Westin courtesy of Barnes & Noble. The bookseller will also offer other books and items for sale as souvenirs of your Sigma Xi experience in Seattle.

Saturday, enjoy a casual early-morning breakfast with Sylvia Earle; ask her what you'd like to know about life on the seabed and her most recent trip to Tasmania. Rejoin Dr. Earle later that afternoon as she delivers the McGovern Lecture about her adventures in communicating ocean science, technology, policy and conservation. Saturday's lunch with Young Investigator Thomas Spencer will spotlight his groundbreaking research into reproductive endocrinology. After lunch, grab a cup of coffee and join David Quammen, Ira Flatow and Bjarne Stroustrup for conversations on communicating science to the public, and on career choices and challenges in these areas.

And remember, new for this year Sigma Xi is offering a Saturday-only ticket option priced lower than our full-event admission. This is a great way to discover the Society's newer programs and resources - and explore options for professional development.
