Liaison Breakfast at Baltimore meetings
The annual liaison's breakfast will be held on Saturday morning, January 18, from 7:00-8:30. We plan to hold roundtable discussions on issues of importance to the MAA and want to hear your views.

New editors for Math Horizons sought
The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) seeks to identify candidates to succeed Stephen Kennedy and Deanna Haunsperger as Editor of Math Horizons when their terms expire in December 2003.
The Search Committee must make a recommendation soon, so that the new editor can be approved by the Board of Governors and begin handling new manuscript submissions in January 2003. Questions about the nature of the position and its workload can be addressed to Stephen Kennedy (skennedy@mathcs.carelton.edu) or Deanna Haunsperger (dhaunspe@mathcs.carelton.edu); questions about MAA support for the editor's work can be addressed to the MAA's Director of Publications, Don Albers (dalbers@maa.org).
Applicants should submit a resume, names of references, and a statement of interest containing their ideas about the journal. These can be e-mailed to the chair of the Search Committee, Joe Gallian, (jgallian@d.umn.edu) or sent by physical mail to Don Albers at the MAA national office. The deadline is October 1.
An Invitation to Participate in an Important Joint AMS/MAA/MSRI/NAM/NCTM Effort
The American Mathematical Society, Mathematical Association of America, Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, National Association of Mathematicians, and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics have undertaken a joint project to maintain a record of the professional interests of mathematicians and mathematics educators from underrepresented minority groups. Interested parties should visit http://www.ams.org/mmei and click on the first link there to learn more about this project.

From Michael Pearson, new Director of Programs and Services at MAA:
This issue of the Liaison's Bulletin is the first since I joined the MAA staff. I am on leave from the faculty of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Mississippi State University, where I served as Associate Professor and Associate Head. I am happy to join Gretchen Brown and Katarina Briedova who keep this office running smoothly, and look forward to working with all of you while I'm here. Our office has primary responsibility for administration of all of MAA's professional development activities, both ongoing and externally funded, assisting many of the more than 130 MAA national committees carry out their duties, support section activities and coordinate student chapters, among a host of other activities.
Let us hear from you. The purpose of the liaison program is twofold. First, we want to supply liaisons with timely information that is useful to you and your colleagues. Second, we want the liaison network to serve as a conduit for information from our members back to us. We at the MAA office want to hear from you. Please tell us how you think we can better serve the community.
