The
Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) seeks applicants for
both postdocs and research mentors (who will host the postdocs) for a
new program, in which IPAM will hire postdoctoral researchers and place
them in a research group in academia, industry or a government
laboratory. (Positions are contingent upon NSF
funding.)
Criteria for
eligibility of Postdoc applicants:
* Applicants must be US citizens, permanent
residents, hold a PhD from a US university, or currently be
a postdoc at a US university.=
* These
positions are intended for recent recipients of PhDs (2005 or later) who
were unsuccessful in the current job
market.
* Applicants should be engaged in the
mathematical sciences. This would include mathematicians working in a
mathematics group, mathematicians working in a science group or
scientists working in a mathematics
group.
Interdisciplinary research projects are
preferred.
We expect these to be
two years positions, but a single year position is also possible. The
start date will fall between August 1 and October 1, 2009, and the
salary level will be competitive.
Criteria for selecting
Research Mentors:
* The mentor should be
working in academia, industry or a government lab in the US.<=
/div>
* The mentor should be
actively engaged in the mathematical sciences, as described
above.
* The mentor should be willing to actively
assist the postdoc in their research and career
development.
* Some sharing of costs between IPAM and the
mentors is desired, but not required.
IPAM will match postdoc applicants with
research mentors based on the stated preferences and feedback from both
parties
If you are interested
in being a research mentor, please send email including a statement of
your research topics of interest and any other info (e.g., description
of your research environment, ability to share some of the cost of
postdoc support).
Please send all inquiries to ipam@ucla.edu
