IPAM Electronic Newsletter

May 2007

The Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) invites you to scroll through its May 2007 newsletter. The programs and workshops described below should appeal to the interests and needs of a broad range of researchers and are designed to foster interdisciplinary research between mathematicians and scientists and scholars working in other disciplines. We encourage you to visit our website at http://www.ipam.ucla.edu for more information on individual programs and events. If you are interested in proposing either a 3-month or short program at IPAM, please visit http://www.ipam.ucla.edu/programs/proposals.aspx or contact the Director, Mark Green.

Now Accepting Applications for IPAM Director:

UCLA’s Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) is seeking its next Director, to begin July 2008.  It is necessary that IPAM’s Director possess sufficient scientific distinction to be offered a tenured faculty position at UCLA. Candidates are asked to send a CV and cover letter to directorsearch@ipam.ucla.edu. For fullest consideration, applications should be received by June 1, 2007; however, applications will be considered until the position is filled.  UCLA is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.

Upcoming IPAM Long Programs:

Each IPAM long program will involve a community of senior and junior researchers. The intent is for long-term participants to have an opportunity to learn about the topic of the program from the perspectives of many different fields and to meet a diverse group of people and have an opportunity to form new collaborations. In addition to these activities, there will be opening tutorials, four workshops (each one is listed under "upcoming workshops"), and a culminating workshop at Lake Arrowhead. Funding is available both to attend our entire 3-month program and to attend individual workshops; those interested are encouraged to apply through the website of the program that interests them.
