Mathematics 152 - Spring 1997

Joel Feldman and Bill Casselman are just now beginning to prepare the text and lab notes for next term. In the meantime, you might take a look at the course outline on Casselman's administration page.

Although the textbook for the course will be notes currently being written by Dr. Feldman, the text Introduction to linear algebra by Daniel Norman is suggested as extra reading.

The laboratories will be based on software written by us in Java (which is, for these purposes, not so different from C). They will likely involve writing short pieces of code, as well as using tools developed by us to handle standard linear algebra routines.

Roughly speaking, this course differs from earlier incarnations of itself in that (1) we introduce more physical examples; (2) we spend much more time on eigenvalues; and (3) the laboratories allow us to deal with large systems.
