Frequently Asked Questions about the Summer School-
Can I get funding?
The deadline for applying for funding was January 17. X

Is there an registration fee?
There is a $75 registration fee to cover the cost of refreshments on each day and other social activities. Registration will open in February.

Can I get travel funding?
No. Unfortunately, our current budget only allows us to offer local expenses for some participants.

Can I submit my CV in a format other than PDF?
We anticipate many applications. To streamline our process, it would be helpful if all documents are in a single format. There are free applications for converting from many formats to PDF.

When will funding be decided?
Funded applicants have been notified. Other participants may be funded should additional funds become available.

I'm funded; Where will I be staying?
Funded participants will be staying at suites on campus, mostly at Gage towers. These have several bedrooms, and a shared kitchen and bathrooms. Breakfast is included. Most have superb views.

What other accommodation options are there?
UBC conference services have a number of dorm rooms available at various rates. Other options on campus include Totem Park, Place Vanier, Thunderbird Residence, Marine Drive Residence, Green College and St. John's College, and the Vancouver School of Theology. Off (and on) campus, it is also possible to find short term sublets/rentals through craigslist or airbnb.

Where is PIMS? Where are the lectures?
PIMS and the lectures are in the Earth Sciences building on Main Mall.

I'm not funded; Where can I stay? How much will it cost?
Typical rent for a room for a month in Vancouver is about $1000 and up. There are many options for staying on campus which is recommended in order to socialize with other participants.

Do I need a visa for Canada? Can you help?
Participants from some countries require a visa to enter Canada. If you do, Ruth Situma (email:ruths@pims.math.ca) can assist in this. Please also read this information from PIMS.
