Piazza

This term we will be using Piazza for class discussion. The system is highly catered to getting you help fast and efficiently from classmates, the TA, and instructors. Rather than emailing questions to the teaching staff, you are encouraged to post your questions on Piazza. If you have any problems or feedback for the developers, email team@piazza.com. Here is the link to our course: https://piazza.com/ubc.ca/winterterm22015/math200/home

Marked Homework

Some test questions will be like some of these marked homework problems. Hand in ON TIME for marks (see Grading Scheme, below). Homework is due at the beginning of the lecture on the due date. Put your NAME and STUDENT I.D. NUMBER in the TOP RIGHT corner of the FIRST page. STAPLE multiple pages together in the TOP LEFT corner.

Suggested Homework/Lecture Topics

Some test questions will be like some of these suggested homework problems. Mark these yourself, using the Student Solutions Manual. Make a serious attempt to solve them first, before consulting the solutions. If you missed lectures, use this as a guide (roughly) to what topics were covered: by the end of the lecture, enough conceptual material or examples were covered to do the suggested homework questions.

Midterm Tests

Closed book: no notes, books, etc. allowed. No calculators, cell phones, etc. allowed. Final numerical answers may be given as "calculator ready", but sometimes intermediate numerical expressions should be simplified in order to be able to proceed to the end of the question.

Final Examination

Grading Scheme

NOTE: Not doing homework (yourself) will make it nearly impossible to pass the course. Test and exam questions will be based on homework questions, but you will have limited time for them in the tests and exam.
