NSERC USRA Summer 2015
The NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRAs) provide a stipend of at least $5,740 for 16 weeks of full-time work in the summer, for independent research in mathematics under the supervision of a UBC faculty member.
Students in the past have found this program to be academically rewarding, as well as being useful for resume-building and for getting enrolled into a graduate program. The opportunity to get to know a faculty member and their research can also be extremely valuable.
The awards are available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents pursuing undergraduate studies and in very good academic standing (average over 80% in Math courses). Details regarding eligibility and frequently asked questions can be found on the NSERC website (www.nserc.ca). Please note that no student may hold more than 3 USRAs in a lifetime.
(If you are an international student, please see Verni Brown in the Math Office about the process for applying for a similar summer research position.)
In order to apply, you need to submit the following documents to Verni Brown in the Math Office:
To help us match up USRA holders and supervisors, please click the NSERC USRA "Available Projects" menu link. Contacting potential supervisors is encouraged but not mandatory. We will officially match successful applicants with faculty members at a later date.
The Math Department deadline for accepting applications is Friday, February 6.
