Author: Joseph Tam

For small lists, it may be easier to make an address book shurtcut in your favourite mail reader.

The IT staff can also set up an Email aliases that will forward to one or more Email addresses; this is handy for role Emails where more than one person occupies that role.

For Email lists with many members or require management, the IT staff can set create a managed mailing list. The mailing list management software can

  • manage the list via commands comminicated through Email. Using these commands, new members can be added or current members removed. The current roster can also be produced.

  • delegate control of the list among several administrators.

  • be configured so that

    • submissions are open or must be approved by a moderator.
    • members can self-subscribe (open list) or must be approved by a mailing list administrator (closed list).
    • size limits can be imposed on submissions.
    • some rudimentary filtering can be implemented.

  • protect the privacy of the membership since recipient information limited to the individual Email addresses for each copy mailed out.

  • have headers and footers prepended and appended to mailouts.
