UBC Mathematics: MathNet FAQ [WinEdt and TeXnicCenter]
Question: Where can I find WinEdt?
Author: Thê´ Hà
Date: Oct. 17, 2006
WinEdt is a popular shareware
application (IDE: Integrated Development Environment) for the authoring of
TeX/LaTeX documents.
WinEdt requires licensing in order to avoid the software from popping
up frequent reminders. The cost to license 200+ users is prohibitive, so
a single license version was installed on the standalone PCs located in our
public computer labs: MATH201, MATHX1108 and AUDX135.
Our public Windows servers that allow multi-users access from our thin
client terminals (i.e. terminal service host Beetle and LadyBug) also have
WinEdt installed. This WinEdt version 5.4 works as of Oct 24 2006.
For those who don't want to pay, we recommend the use of
TeXnicCenter, an open software package for development of LaTeX
documents. The software's home page
is written in German, but there are English
documentation on its usage.
